Green Job Training Kick-off this Friday, July 24!
Ex-offenders to receive training for green jobs in West Philadelphia
The Partnership CDC will host the kick-off of its Green Collar on-the-job training project on July 24 at 10:00 AM at 4020 Market Street. The Partnership CDC will begin this new initiative by training three ex-offenders to install green roofs and apply energy saving cool-roof material on two buildings along the section of Market Street referred to as “Green Alley” (Market Street between 40th -41st streets).
This project will create genuine green-collar jobs in West Philadelphia and address environmental concerns. Each summer we hear tragic stories of seniors and infants dying from heat exposure in upper-level apartments. Some of these deaths may be avoided with the installation of roofs which reduce the heat island effect during hot summer days.
Partners in the project include Home Depot, PECO,the Mayor’s Office for the Reentry of Ex-offenders (MORE), and BioNeighbors Sustainable Homes LLC (a locally-owned roofing and home retrofitting company specializing in energy-saving roofing that is funding the trainees).
