On Monday, January 10, 2011, a five alarm fire destroyed the homes of residents living in a West Philadelphia apartment building. While reports say no one was injured or killed in the fire, many residents lost everything. Mayor Michael Nutter says 118 people are homeless as a result of the fire.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army have been providing emergency shelter and services to the families. The Partnership CDC is supporting their efforts by collecting donations for personal hygiene products, towels, washcloths, hats, scarfs, gloves, coats and children’s books or toys. Financial donations should be sent directly to Salvation Army 5501 Market Street, Philadelphia PA 19139.
